Here are some examples of music I have written for school orchestra. The orchestra I train is a transitional orchestra of roughly grades III - V and most of the players are between 12 and 14. These scores can be downloaded in full (plus parts) from my scoreexchange.com with prices quoted on that website. Contact me at griffmusic@gmail.com to discuss alternative arrangements for getting hold of a score and parts (ie you want it for free or to "haggle").
Symphony no 1 "The Concept"
flute, oboe, 2 clarinets, bassoon, horn, 2 trumpets, trombone, timpani, strings
I spend much of my time in orchestra and choir rehearsals pointing out how the music we perform in concerts is relevant to the listening papers of the SQA music courses. I decided to write a symphony which quite deliberately and explicitly set out to highlight a number of "concepts" from the SQA list. I The orchestration of this piece is specifically for the instrumentation I had available when I composed he piece. If I had written this piece this year I would have had two bassoon parts, two horn parts, a tuba part and so on.
